A friend made the comment that this song was a kind of anti-Lysistrata. I’m thinking that applies equally to the original, Robert Burns’ ‘Why Should Na Poor People Mowe?’ which I’ve blatantly ripped off. I wrote this song on 19 February 2022 for the February Album Writing Month songwriting challenge (fawm.org)
Back in February, I wanted to believe that Putin wouldn’t invade Ukraine as I feared he would. Obviously, that is no longer a fear but a sad reality. I don’t know if Robert Burns was as equally disgusted with all of the politicians of his day as I am of ours, but I’m willing to bet he was at least leaning that way. And not just the foreign ones. The bastards.
